Specialties: More price increases as mills strive to adjust to relentlessly rising costs
OAKLAND, CA, March 30, 2018 (PPI Pulp & Paper Week) -Against a background of relentlessly rising input costs, and an ongoing shortage of dyes commonly used in the production of thermal and carbonless papers, upcoming price increases affecting a broad range of specialty grades have been set by several producers including Appvion, Glatfelter, Domtar, Twin Rivers, and BPM.
Domtar, North America's largest uncoated freesheet papermaker by capacity, set a $2.50/cwt ($50/ton) increase on its lightweight opaque range of uncoated specialty papers for financial, book publishing, and pharmaceutical uses effective with Apr. 23 shipments. Domtar's increase in Canada is C$3.20/cwt (C$64/ton).
