Strong dollar, slowing global growth, more supply keep US kraft liner export prices under pressure
OAKLAND, CA, Jan. 29, 2016 (PPI Pulp & Paper Week) -The strong US dollar, slowing global economic growth, and more supply from mills all over the world continue to keep US kraft linerboard export prices under pressure, according to traders.
Despite these headwinds, US kraft linerboard exports -- which have been a major factor in keeping the domestic market in balance -- were up 3.3% to 4.3 million tons in 2015. This compares to a 1.0% decline in linerboard production for domestic use, according to the latest American Forest & Paper Assn (AF&PA) statistics.
