Taiwan’s Chung Hwa Pulp restarts mill after earthquake

SINGAPORE, Feb. 9, 2018 (PPI Asia) -Taiwan’s Chung Hwa Pulp has resumed production at its pulp and paper mill in Hualien after shutting the facility on February 6 in the wake of a strong earthquake.

The 6.4-magnitude quake struck the coast city of Hualien at midnight, causing nine deaths.

The plant was shut immediately after due to safety concerns, but restarted restarted February 8.

It runs a 285,000 tonne/yr bleached hardwood kraft pulp line and two paper machines with a combined capacity of 150,000 tonnes/yr.
