Uncoated Freesheet: US producers build up inventories 5% in 4Q as trade case ruling nears

OAKLAND, CA, Jan. 29, 2016 (PPI Pulp & Paper Week) -US uncoated freesheet (UFS) paper producers added about 5% to their yearend inventory total while they await a significant trade case ruling next month -- and even as they surprisingly shipped more paper in December, by 1.2%, than in December 2014.

The year-over-year increase occurred even as the UFS demand over the last 15 years consistently declined between 2% and3% on average per year.

Some believed that preliminary antidumping and countervailing duties on UFS cutsize paper imports from Australia, Brazil, China, Indonesia, and Portugal chilled imports and benefited US producer fourth-quarter output. ...
