Uncoated Mechanical: Price increases, import duties cause distortion in high-bright markets

OAKLAND, CA, April 27, 2018 (PPI Pulp & Paper Week) -US import duties on uncoated groundwood (UM) shipments from Canada are causing similar distortions to those impacting the newsprint market, sources said this week.

High-bright prices increased $50/ton in the first quarter, according toPPI Pulp & Paper Week's Price Watch, and prices are continuing to rise in the second quarter from additional producer increases set for April and May that sources said are moving into the market with little or no resistance from buyers.
