Uruguayan president meets with UPM’s CEO; protesters gather in Montevideo

SAO PAULO, Sept. 10, 2019 (PPI Latin America) -Executives from Finnish pulp producer UPM met with the president of Uruguay, Tabaré Vázquez, as the company moves on with plans to build a new bleached eucalyptus kraft (BEK) pulp mill in the country by 2022. Authorities reinforced the agreement reached with UPM during a time when street protesters have been opposing the construction of the new 2.1 million tonnes/yr pulp mill near Paso de los Toros city.
