US NBSK pulp spot markets slide $20/tonne on high supplies, increased competition as Scandinavian producers swoop in
OAKLAND, CA, May 17, 2019 (RISI) -In US pulp spot markets, northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) prices toppled amid increased competition from European producers that vied for business in America, industry sources told Fastmarkets RISI.
Benchmark NBSK shot down $20/tonne to $700-740/tonne net delivered to the US East and Midwest in Fastmarkets RISI polling through May 17. Canadian producers, accustomed to having US spot markets to themselves, bristled at the growing presence of Scandinavian firms in domestic markets.
