US SBSK pulp spot market prices rise $15/tonne but momentum wanes in NBSK, BHK

OAKLAND, CA, Feb. 6, 2018 (RISI) -In US pulp spot markets, southern bleached softwood kraft (SBSK) increased $15/tonne on low supply and some bounces in demand, while three other key grades held unchanged on expectations that levels had already peaked.

Benchmark northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) was flat, at $770-810/tonne net delivered the US East and Midwest, industry sources told RISI in polling through January 30. Low volume deals occurred in line with early January polling, with producers unable to push non-contract prices higher amid reluctance from US buyers at paying high prices for spot tonnes.
