BRUSSELS , May 30, 2008 (RISI) -
International Paper (IP) is gradually starting up a new 200,000 tonne/yr bleached chemi-thermomechanical pulp (BCTMP) line at its Svetogorsk mill in the Leningrad region of Russia.
The unit was originally planned to come on stream in the fourth quarter of 2006, but difficulties in procuring approval from the relevant authorities forced IP to reschedule the startup for the middle of 2007. A further delay, due to labor availability issues, pushed the date back to the end of 2007. A company spokeswoman declined to explain the reasons for the latest delay, as well as when the unit would be in full operation.
