EXPANSIONS/UPGRADES

Fletcher Challenge Canada Ltd., in Crofton, B.C., has placed an order with Beloit to upgrade its No. 3 Beloit paper machine. The estimated $30-million project will include a consistency profiling headbox called the Concept IV-MH, a Bel Baie II to Bel Baie IV twin wire former conversion, and three new sections of Total BelRun dryers, reusing existing dryer cans and felt rolls. The project also includes a winder automation package.

Price Industries has purchased two LeTourneau JC40 jib cranes from Heavy Machines, LeTourneau's jib crane dealer, for its new Kisatchie Chips chip mill in Nachitoches, La. The two 120 ft boom JC40s will unload trucks and feed a single high-production chipping line. Chips will be sent to Georgia-Pacific mills in the Louisiana area.

Riverwood International Corp., in West Monroe, La., has placed an order with Sandar Industries for a Tusa IV automated turn-up system. The system routinely completes smooth turn-ups, virtually eliminating wrinkles and wasted production.

Great Lakes Tissue Co., in Cheboygan, Mich., has selected Black Clawson to supply a Mid-Con pulper, a Black Clawson/Sebright high-density extruder, Ultra-V fine screens, an Ultra-Disc coarse screen, and spare parts package.

Michigan Paperboard Co., in Battle Creek, Mich., has placed an order with Sandar Industries Inc. for a Tusa IV automated turn-up system.

Gaylord Container Corp., in Antioch, Calif., has placed an order with Sandar Industries for a Tusa IV automated turn-up system.

Zaklady Papiernicze W., in Krapkowice, Poland, has placed an order with Sandar Industries for a Tusa IV automated turn-up system.

Rock Tenn Co., in Sheldon Springs, Vt., intends to increase production capacity and product quality with the purchase of several Black Clawson pressure screens for installation in the paper machine approach flow system.

Avenor Inc.'s Gatineau, Qué., mill placed a new influent pump station and primary clarifier in operation to allow Ahlstrom Machinery time to repair the existing primary clarifier basin and convert it for use as a secondary clarifier. Avenor's Aquaflow system treats 82,000 m3/day of effluent.

Riverwood International Corp., in Macon, Ga., has selected Black Clawson to supply a Liquid Cyclone centrifugal cleaner and control panel to be installed in the broke pulping system as part of a machine rebuild. Black Clawson Liqui-Filter black liquor filters will also be installed on the mills pulp mill project. One will serve as a saveall filter for the Black Clawson Chemi-Washer horizontal belt washer installed several years ago. The second will handle weak black liquor.

Shin Oji Paper Co., in Hiroshima, Japan, has placed an order with Sandar Industries for a Tusa IV automated turn-up system.

E.B. Eddy Forest Products Ltd. in Hull, Qué., has contracted with the Lawton Co. for the supply of new taper cone drive pulleys as part of the program to speed up its PM No. 11.

Buffalo Paperboard Corp. has a seven unit multi-former in its Lockport, N.Y., mill. Currently, the mill is upgrading the approach flow system with the installation of new piping and Black Clawson Ultra-V pressure screens. The upgrade is necessary to protect the wire on the formers.

Jujo Paperboard Co., in Osaka Pref., Japan has placed an order with Sandar Industries for a Tusa IV automated turn- up system.

Stora Forest Industries Inc.'s Port Hawkesbury, N.S., mill has begun operations with a new Ahlstrom Aquaflow effluent treatment and sludge dewatering facility. The system treats 78,700 m3/day of effluent.

Willamette Industries Inc. has placed an order with Ahlstrom Machinery for a new 1,000 a.d.tpd bleaching line as part of a major modernization of its Hawesville, Ky., mill. The mill has also ordered a Multi-Retention Deculator cleaner system for the approach to its new Valmet fine paper machine.

Newark Sierra Paperboard, in Stockton, Calif., has ordered dryer heads from the Lawton Co. The ASME coded heads will be designed for 75 psi operating pressure, and will be machined complete to fit the 42 in. diameter dryers on its paperboard machine.

Fraser Paper Inc., in Park Falls, Wis., has contracted with the Lawton Co. to refurbish one of its dryer cans. Lawton will remove the old dryer heads, magnetic particle inspect the shell, sugar blast shell and heads, mount and seal the heads to the can, and hydrostatically test the entire assembly at twice the rated pressure.

Rock-Tenn Co., of Lynchburg, Va., has ordered two AES Engineered Systems VA (vacuum augmented) gravity strainers to strain whitewater for reuse on its PM No. 2.

Cellulosa Argentina S.A. has ordered a Measurex MXOpen supervisory control system for installation on PM No. 4 at its Capitan Bermudez, S.F., mill.

Inland Container Corp., of New Johnsonville, Tenn., has ordered AES Engineered Systems pressure filters for a number of mill applications, including press felt cleaning and lube showers, compressor cooling water, and heat exchanger water.

Ahlstrom Kaemmerer has ordered Measurex MXOpen quality control systems and web inspection systems for installation on PM No. 3 and PM No. 4 at its mill in Osnabrück, Germany.

International Paper Corp., in Corinth, N.Y., has purchased an Everclean non-plugging whitewater recycling shower system from Shower Technology, a division of CPI Pump and Equipment Corp. The 35-nozzle fan shower has performed as expected with no plugging since its installation in early 1995.

Corrugated Services Inc. has ordered a Measurex MXOpen supervisory control and distributed control system for its Forney, Texas, mill.

Papel Prensa S.A. has ordered a Measurex MXOpen Devronizer moisture profiling system for installation on PM No. 11 at its San Pedro, Argentina, mill.

Smurfit Newsprint Corp. has ordered a Measurex AutoSlice CD control system for PM No. 4 at its Oregon City, Ore., mill.

Stone Container Corp. has ordered a Measurex MXOpen supervisory control system and Devronizer system for PM No. 5 at its Hodge, La., mill.

Unipak S.A. de CV has ordered a Measurex MXOpen supervisory control system and Devronizer system for PM No. 3 at its Cuernavaca, Mexico, mill.

Boise Cascade Corp. has ordered a Measurex MXOpen supervisory system and three cross-direction profile control systems for its mill in Rumford, Maine.

Equitable Bag Co., in Orange, Texas, has ordered nine Super Siphons for its PM No. 1 from Steam Specialties Repair. This order completes the upgrade on PM No. 1.

Bowater Inc. has contracted with Sander Bros. to fabricate an EO Upflow Tower for its mill in Catawba, S.C. The tower is 10 ft x 6 ft in diameter and is approximately 115 ft tall.

Tenneco Packaging has awarded ABB C-E Services Inc. a contract in excess of $5 million to perform a boiler upgrade at its Counce, Tenn., paper mill. The upgrade will increase the chemical recovery unit's black liquor firing capacity by approximately 50%.

Sonoco Products Co., in Atlanta, Ga., has ordered 57 Super Siphons from Steam Specialties Repair. In December, 39 Super Siphons were ordered and installed. This latest order will complete the project to upgrade their dryers to rotary siphons.

Willamette Industries Inc. has awarded Siemens a contract to supply a vacuum pump system for its new paper machine at the PM No. 2 in Hawesville, Ky. Nine 2BE3 series liquid ring vacuum pumps will be installed as part of a $600-million expansion project.

Cartones Ponderosa S.A. de C.V., in San Juan del Rio, Mexico has selected Valmet to rebuild its PM No. 1. The machine will start up in spring 1997 at the coated boxboard mill.

For New Oji's new line at the Yonago Mill in Japan, Voith Sulzer Finishing GmbH has been awarded a contract for the supply of an online Janus Concept instead of two supercalenders which would have been necessary to cope with the planned production capacity. The 7.3 m calender will be a 2 x 5 roll configuration.

Holmen Paper's Braviken, Sweden, mill has announced the successful startup of a Measurex MXOpen quality control system and web inspection system on a new newsprint machine.

Willamette Industries Inc. has ordered a new complete Valmet uncoated free- sheet paper machine for its Hawesville, Ky., mill. The PM No. 2 will have a wire width of 346 in., a trim of 315 in., and is designed to run at 4,500 ft/min.

Stora Reisholz GmbH has contracted with Voith Sulzer Finishing GmbH to convert and modernize a Kleinewefers supercalender. The calender was purchased by Nordland Papier in Dorpen, Germany.

Shin Ho Paper has awarded a contract for an offline, eight-roll Janus Concept, to Voith Sulzer Finishing. This equipment will be installed at the greenfield mill in Taejon, located in central South Korea.

New Oji Paper Co., Japan has awarded a contract for a Janus Concept to Voith Sulzer Finishing GmbH. The equipment will be installed in the Yonago Mill.

Veitsiluoto Oy has ordered a JetFlow F from Voith Sulzer Papiertechnik. The rebuild will be ready for startup in the fall of 1996.

Cartiere del Gards Spa in Riva del Garda, Italy, has ordered to convert an existing Eck supercalander from Voith Sulzer Finishing GmbH. This unit will be commissioned in the summer of 1996.

Haindl Papier GmbH, in Augsburg, Germany, will be receiving the 1,000th Conflo refiner from Sunds Defibrator. The unit will be used to increase the share of deinked pulp in supercalender grade paper machine furnish through improved post-refining treatment.

Produits Forrestières Alliance Inc. has placed an order with Voith Sulzer Finishing GmbH for the supply of a softcalender for online operation in the partly rebuilt PM No. 5 at Dolbeau, Qué. The softcalender will be used to finish newsprint and SC-B grades at speeds up to 1,000 m/min with linear loads up to 370 N/mm and a maximum roll surface temperature of 200C.

Veitsiluoto Oy, in Finland, has selected Voith Sulzer Papiermaschinen to rebuild its existing coater. The new coater will start up in the fall of 1996.

Cartiere del Garda Spa, in Riva del Garda, Italy, has awarded Voith Sulzer Finishing GmbH a contract to rebuild existing Eck supercalender with a roll width of 3,850 mm to enable it to operate at higher speeds. The calender is now designed for supercalendering of high-quality, wood-free coated papers up to 400 g/m2 and speeds up to 700 m/min.
