AUTOMATION
Rockwell Automation has extended its range of migration solutions, designed to ease paper industry equipment retrofits and rebuilds. New additions include the 56AMXN module, 1756 drive module, Multibus ControlNet (MBCN) module and DPS style and Bulletin 1395 style DC retrofit controller. Rockwell says its new solutions increase control and configuration options for the user, while protecting current investments.

FABRICS
Opto-Control Ltd has rolled out its LINE-TEC 200-D edge tracking and guiding system for dryer section fabrics. Thanks to its non-contacting system guiding, LT200-D eliminates unnecessary wear and tear of the fabric edge, the company says. Features include air purge, which prevents disturbance caused by external factors such as dust, moisture or chemicals, and the ability to connect the output signal to the distributed control system (DCS), giving useful information on the fabric edge position.

PROCESS CONTROL
Honeywell has launched a new service offering advanced on-site data-gathering tools for the pulp, paper and printing industry. The Machine Monitoring Service utilizes remote technology to monitor and report the performance of machines making flat-sheet products. Honeywell staff provide flexible realtime analysis of the data, enabling them to detect critical process equipment problems and alert the customers to function deviations. The company says the Machine Monitoring Service offers an affordable entrance into machine process variation analysis while generating high returns.

Monitran has unveiled the MTN/1100 Series, a new range of accelerometers designed to augment the performance, reliability and operating life of industrial equipment through cost effective vibration and condition monitoring. The range provides a frequency response of 2Hz to 8kHz ± 10% and 100 mV/g ± 10% sensitivity. Features new to the series include internal screening to eliminate the effects of radio frequency and electromagnetic interference as well as internal voltage surge protection. Monitran says the range is suitable for a wide range of industrial applications. It also features OEM, intrinsically safe and low-profile versions.

PUMPS
Watson-Marlow Bredel has launched the SPX peristaltic hose pump. The company claims the product is ideal for rigorous pulp and paper applications, since its lifespan is unaffected by highly abrasive chemicals, solids and slurries. The firm says the new pump is virtually maintenance free, since there are no seals to replace, check valves to clog or rotors and stators to wear out, while its self-loading design also makes replacement quick and easy.

PUMPS
Gould Pumps has added the Model PS 200 to its PumpSmart Control Solutions product line. As with previous offerings, the new product is a microprocessor based, variable speed drive, programmed specifically for centrifugal pumps up to 700 horsepower. The PS 200 enables the control of two to four pump systems without the need for separate PLCs and custom programming, says Gould, while continuous monitoring and reaction to pump conditions and system demands enable accurate control of virtually any process parameter. The company claims the PS 200 also enables energy savings of 30-70% because at lower demands it reduces the motor speed.

STARCHES
Cerestar is launching a new specialty starch for pigmented inkjet papers. C*Size SP 05855 brings contour and color improvements when used as a sole binder in pigmented formulations, the company says. The new starch will go on show for the first time at SPCI in Stockholm, 4-6 June 2002. The firm will also be showing at Corrugated 2002, Paris (June 10-15), where it will be demonstrating the latest additions to its COROMAT adhesive preparation system, alongside products for the corrugating industry. Items on display will include starches for improving bonding and faster running of heavy-duty double and triple wallboards.

VALVES
Parker Instrumentation has unveiled a new valve system, R-max, for automated stream switching in gas and liquid analysis applications. The system uses surface-mounting techniques to dramatically reduce the size of control systems for process analysers and gas chromatographs, and to provide modularity for assembling compact switches for any quantity of fluid streams. The surface mounted approach means that stream switches are up to 90% smaller than systems built using standard valves and tubing, allowing end users and analyzer OEMs to build highly compact systems, the company says.
