CHAMPION INTERNATIONAL

The company has recently formed a team to lead their new business, Specialty Papers. Brent Shreiner was appointed VP/business manager. Reporting to him are: Steve Schwartzhoff, sales manager; Steve Riegsecker, director, business development; and Cathleen Bahan, director of marketing.

BOISE CASCADE CORP.

The company has announced that Miles Hewitt, manager of the company’s paper mill in Wallula, Wash., has been promoted to regional manager of operations in Minnesota, including the pulp and paper mill in International Falls, Minnesota.

 

LONGVIEW FIBRE CO.

Brent W. Tillotson has been promoted to manager of the Springfield, Mass., container plant. Tillotson replaces Michael R. Fitzpatrick, who will transfer to the company’s headquarters in Longview, Wa., to be personnel manager.

 

INTERNATIONAL PAPER

Austin E. Lance has been promoted to general manager, coated papers. He will remain in the Memphis, Tenn., office.

 

ENCORE PAPER CO.

Peter Ashline has been named plant manager, and Norman Bolduc has been promoted to quality control engineer & safety specialist at the facility in South Glens Falls, N.Y.

 

WEYERHAEUSER

Kent Walker has been named VP, mill manager of the company’s Columbus pulp and paper complex. He succeeds Paul Jethro, who has been named VP and team leader of process reliability for the company’s mill system.

 

CONSOLIDATED PAPERS INC.

Steve Myers has been promoted to assistant paper machine supervisor, Nos. 23 and 24, at the Biron Division. At the Wisconsin Rapids Division Jack Beck has been named paper machine shift supervisor, Nos. 12 and 15, Don Brewster has been selected as electrical supervisor, Jay Capelle has been promoted to senior maintenance engineer, and Sheryl Tepp has been promoted to assistant coater/coating & finishing/quality superintendent, No. 16. Mark Rehberg has been promoted to electrical superintendent at the Stevens Point Division. At the Wisconsin River Division, Randy Maslowski has been promoted to paper machine shift supervisor, No. 64, and Jerry Tepp has been promoted to assistant paper machine superintendent, Nos. 61 & 63. At Lake Superior Paper Industries, Mike Hansen has been promoted to plant engineer.

 

KIMBERLY-CLARK CORP.

Thomas J. Falk has been named president and COO. He will also join the company’s board of directors. Russell C. Taylor has been named group president, Away From Home and Neenah Paper. He will assume responsibility for the Neenah Paper sector and environment and energy department.

 

SP NEWSPRINT CO.

The company has changed its name from Southeast Paper Manufacturing Co. Dr. James L. Burke, president and CEO, has announced the following management changes: Gary Peters, senior VP of administration and president of SP Recycling Corp., Mark Rawlings, senior VP Southeast region, Joe Gorman, senior VP of the Pacific region, Mark Klimko, VP sales and marketing and president of SP Newsprint Sales Co., Mark Carter, VP and CFO, Pete Labella, director of human resources, and Randy Jones, director of information systems.

 

LAKE SUPERIOR PAPER INDUSTRIES

At the Duluth mill, Jim Bittinger has been promoted to engineering manager and Tom Coughlin has transferred to team leader-maintenance. Mike Hansen, has been promoted to plant engineer at the Superior mill.

 

GARDEN STATE PAPER CO.

John O. Ovanessian has joined the company as regional sales manager. He will be responsible for sales and marketing of newsprint, primarily in the Northeast. He will assume the responsibilities of George Mayer, who retired at the end of 1999.

 

PACIFICA PAPERS INC.

James Lawn, CFO, resigned from his position at the company in November 1999. David Gandossi, the company’s comptroller and treasurer, has assumed Mr. Lawn’s duties.

 

MERCHANTS

WWF PAPER CORP.

Michael W. Fogarty has accepted the position of VP/sales manager of the company’s Mid-Atlantic-Annapolis Junction, MD division.

 

ROXCEL CORP.

Luis Vazquez has joined the company as director of export sales - Latin America, and Joseph F. Wolf has joined as director of import sales. Roxcel is a privately held pulp, paper, and board trading company founded in 1993 and headquartered in Vienna, Austria.

 

SUPPLIER COMPANIES

MARSDEN INC.

The supplier of gas infrared drying systems has welcomed Frank Legrady as a manufacturing technician at its headquarters in Pennsauken, N.J. Greg Deininger has been hired as a mechanical designer, and Kenneth DelaTorre has been hired as an electrical engineer.

 

THIELE KAOLIN CO.

William Wiggins has assumed the duties of president and CEO. Jay Rachels has assumed the duties of COO. Larry Hodge has been promoted to CFO. Martina Hodges has assumed the duties of VP of business planning. Mark Willis has joined the company as manager of engineering. Eric Tillirson has joined the company as marketing manager.

 

HERCULES INC.

Thomas W. Fredericks has been named VP and general manager of the pulp and paper division.

OSMONICS

Edward J. Fierko has been appointed president and COO, effective immediately. Mike Fabich has joined the company as general manager of the household water treatment global marketing unit. Keith B. Robinson has joined the company as senior VP of finance and administration.

 

XYCOM AUTOMATION INC.

Theodore Tzafaroglou has assumed the duties of COO. Tzafaroglou replaces Thomas Gross, who has left the company.

 

BOSCH AUTOMATION TECHNOLOGY

Jim Chester has been named hydraulic pump product manager for North America.

 

QCOMP TECHNOLOGIES

Pete Famighetti has joined the company as president of the drives and controls division.

SERMATECH

Dr. Srinivasan Shankar has been named senior VP of Sermatech International and COO of Sermatech Technical Services.

 

SIEMENS

Mike Wilcox has been appointed manager of the technical support and motor management programs.

 

ALFA LAVAL

Marty Organ has been promoted to marketing supervisor. Jeff Martin has joined the company as a technical service representative.

 

ENGINEERING INFORMATION INC.

Martin Tanke has been appointed president and CEO. Mr. Tanke succeeds John Regazzi, who was appointed member of the board in July 1999.

 

EKA CHEMICALS

The company has announced the promotion of the following people to district manager: Rick Poch in the Pacific Northwest; Scott McFarland in the North Central; and Mike Sigman in the Midwest.

 

WALL COLMONOY CORP.

William P. Clark has been elected chairman and CEO of the company, which manufactures nickel-base hard-surfacing alloys and brazing filler metals.

 

BJM CORP.

The Old Saybrook, Conn.-based company has announced that Dr. Howard Penrose has been appointed general manager of the ALL-TEST Test-Instrument Division.

 

SPECIALTY MINERALS INC.

Chris Wimberger was hired as technical sales representative for the North Central U.S. encompassing Minnesota and Wisconsin. Dennis Shaffer has joined the company as Western regional sales manager.

 

AMI BEARINGS INC.

David Corso has been appointed director of marketing, North America. Corso most recently served as sales and marketing director at the Gemini Group in Chicago.

 

ELEMENTIS SPECIALTIES

David Fisher has been appointed to the newly created position of VP of operations. His direct responsibility is the global manufacturing operations of the three Elementis Specialties business units: Rheox, Elementis Performance Polymers, and Elementis Colorants & Additives. Jonathan Mortimer has been appointed to operational support manager of Rheox.

 

ASSOCIATION

ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT CORRUGATED CONVERTERS (AICC)

The following officers and directors were elected at the 1999 Annual Meeting: James M. Davis, president; Craig Hoyt, first senior VP; Greg Arvanigian, Jay Wertheimer, and Larry Cooper, senior VPs; A. Steven Young, executive VP; and Paul H. Vishny, secretary.

 

RETIREMENTS

TEMPLE-INLAND INC.

Clifford J. Grum is retiring from his position as CEO, which he has held since the company spun-off from Time Inc. in 1983. Grum has also served as chairman of the board since 1991. Kenneth M. Jastrow, II has been elected to succeed Mr. Grum.

 

SEALED AIR CORP.

T.J.Dermot Dunphy will retire as CEO effective Feb. 29, 2000. Mr. Dunphy will continue to serve as chairman of the board of directors. William V. Hickey has been named as Mr. Dunphy’s successor as of March 1. 2000.

Henry Kessler, co-founder and VP of the company, died Oct. 29, 1999, in Baltimore, Md.
