ANALYZERS
Permi is a new online paper quality analyzer from ACA Systems. The unit is designed for monitoring grades where porosity is a critical variable. The system is said to provide continuous and immediate feedback on quality and changes of porosity. The analyzer can be used in machines, which produce paper grades including sack, cigarette, filter, machine-glazed kraft, bank note, photo, supercalendered and lightweight coated base.

a 'seeing' robot for pallet handling
Svensk Industriautomation has introduced a 'seeing' robot for pallet handling

AUTOMATION
Svensk Industriautomation claims that its 'seeing' robot with a 3D vision system will make it possible to automate picking, loading and removing components directly from pallets. The robot will also be able to replace its portal counterparts, which usually require an operator to put the components on pallets and fixtures. The unit, called PalletPicker, orients itself using an optic sensor. The supplier says the robot can also be used for remote manufacturing where material handling is controlled via the internet.

FILTERS
A range of plastic inline filters for protecting vacuum pumps, valves, ejectors and other system components from harmful particles such as dust has been introduced by Anver Corporation. The filters' features include clear polycarbonate bowls to provide visual monitoring of the filter condition and allow easy cleaning or replacement without breaking down the line. The product is said to be corrosion resistant and immune to rust.

MAINTENANCE
Emerson Process Management has developed PlantWeb Alerts supported by various FOUNDATION fieldbus devices. The system's alerts deliver warning and user support guidance triggered by diagnostics from the company's intelligent field devices. The system is said to lead to increased process availability and reduced downtime through its ability to prioritize measurement or final control deterioration or fault conditions and selectively warn maintenance personnel and operators.

SAFETY
Workplace mishaps associated with improper handling of storage drums can be avoided with the use of multi-function drum handlers from Drum Runner, the company claims. The unit is available in numerous models with patented features that ensure maximum operator safety without sacrificing performance. The supplier has developed manually operated models, as well as forklift and hoist attachments designed to transport steel, plastic and fiber drums.

SENSORS
GLI International has introduced the PRO-P2 pH/ORP transmitter. The product is said to accept many different types of pH/ORP sensors, including GLI Differential sensors, conventional combination electrodes or electrode pairs. The isolated 4-20 mA analog output can represent the measured pH, ORP or temperature. During calibration, the analog output is automatically held at the last measured value, and, upon completion, returned to its active state.

WEB SYSTEMS
Kadant Web Systems is offering a range of metal blades that have a wear resistant leading edge to prolong product life. The ProCrepe blade produces uniform tissue properties across the width and from roll to roll, which result in a 75% improvement in sheet quality, the supplier claims. The improvements are due to a reduction of two sigma variances in sheet quality parameters and an enhancement in crepe count and softness, according to the company.

WET END TECHNOLOGY
Perplas Lunds has developed a new material for wet end components called the EVO2. The product is said to outlast any known synthetic polymer by at least 400%. The company says the formulation of the material is confidential, but the word "alloy" is being used to describe the product with true chemical accuracy. The alloy has already been tested in forming foils, low vacuum foils, dewatering foils and suction box covers, as well as uhle box and blow box tops.
