The Asian pulp and paper industry and market have been under scrutiny. What's happening? What's going to happen? Most of the mystery will be cleared away at Asian Paper 2002, April 24-26 in Singapore.

The latest news, trends, technology, market viewpoints will be discussed during the Senior Management Symposium and New Applied Technology Conference. Delegates will also have ample opportunity to browse around the vast equipment display. Also part of Asian Paper are the Tissue Asia Show and the Paper Products Fair.

Asian Paper will give a complete view of the industry from fibre through end user. Being held for the first time in conjunction with Asian Paper, CMM Asia will feature exhibits including machinery, materials and processes for paper, film and foil converting, packaging printing and production, coating, laminating and die cutting, flexible packaging, graphic arts and folding boxes and cartons. The CMM Asia technical conference is also part of the program with two sessions on Thursday, April 25.

The Senior Management Symposium will have three sessions, April 25-26. The theme is Responding to Change. In the first session, The Industry Today, speakers will look at market pulp swings from a supplier's view, the importance of Asia to a global company and global paper demand and supply to 2010.

When discussing Asian markets, the one country that's foremost on most people's minds is, of course, China. Reaching its vast population and increasing per capita paper use is like the Promised Land for many producers. The Impact of China session will look at growth prospects in Chinese paper markets, China's trade with Asia and the effect on other countries, the role of private industry in the country's paper industry and the effect of China's entry into the WTO.

The final session will put specific companies under the microscope - Oji and its expansion plans, Phoenix and its "big new plans for expansion" as well as the fiber resources, finances and strategies of the Indonesian pulp and paper companies. For the "techies" in the audience, the New Applied Technology Conference will cover such diverse sectors as: pulping, recycling and recovery; stock preparation, wet end and press section; drying; sizing and coating; calendaring/finishing; control, automation and simulation.
