Rock-Tenn Co. As part of its division-wide strategic modernization plan to add more quality features to its products, Rock-Tenn Co., Otsego, Mich., has ordered a rebuild of its Jagenberg winder from A&F Corp. The rebuild will consist of new cylinders, on-machine wiring and piping, cutting the machine down from 183 in. to 126 in., refinishing the front and rear drums, and carbide coating for the front and rear drums.

Monadnock Paper Mills, Bennington, N.H., has ordered PPS/Trim software, the trim optimization component of ABB’s Production Planning Software (PPS).

Champion International, Roanoke Rapids, N.C., has ordered a Step Diffusor headbox with ModuleJet-SD dilution control and Profilmatic M controls from Voith Sulzer. The new primary headbox was purchased to improve the quality and production rate of linerboard, high performance linerboard, and white top liner on its No. 4 linerboard machine.

Sonoco Products, Sumner, Wash., has purchased four replacement paper machine dryers from VanTek Inc.

For its No. 2 paper machine, California Paperboard, Santa Clara, Calif., has purchased Model 44 automatic linear-brush shower technology from James Ross Ltd.

P.H. Glatfelter Co.’s Spring Grove, Pa., mill has become the first U.S. pulp and paper mill to achieve ISO 14001 certification for its environmental management system. In addition, P.H. Glatfelter has announced an investment in excess of $32 million to improve air and water quality at the Spring Grove mill.

Pasadena Paper Co. has ordered ABB’s manufacturing execution system (MES) software for its mill in Pasadena, Texas. ABB’s MES will replace the mill’s existing system as part of a planned decommissioning of systems from the former Simpson mill.

Inland Paperboard & Packaging, Maysville, Ky., has installed and started up a Thermo-Jet shower from AES Engineered Systems.

For the No. 1 paper machine at its Nekoosa, Wis., mill, Georgia-Pacific has contracted with the Lawton Co. for the supply of new gearing.

Rock-Tenn Co., Dallas, Texas, has ordered a new 118-in. paper machine reel and reel spool storage system from A&F Corp. The reel will be processing 84-in.-dia reels.

NuWay Paper Co., Benton Harbor, Mich., has ordered a new 122-in. paper machine reel and 114-in. 3060 RDE winder/unwind along with extended reel rails with five intermediate storage positions from A&F Corp. The 30-in. drum winder will process coated paper at 7,000 fpm. The reel will handle 80-in. rolls at 3,000 fpm.

Weyerhaeuser Co., Plymouth, N.C., has installed 25 Elsnarq self-supported steam joints from The Johnson Corp. on its No. 2 paper machine.

Inland Empire Paper Co., Millwood, Wash., has ordered Mat online calenders with Multi HV technology from Kùsters Beloit GmbH & Co.

Marcal Paper Mills, Elmwood Park, N.J., has successfully started up four AES 4000 GravityStrainers from AES Engineered Systems for its No. 2 paper machine whitewater reuse project.

Interstate Paper, Riceboro, Ga., has ordered a new d.c. drive system and motors from GE Industrial Systems. The DC2000 adjustable speed, digital drive system will be installed to control a new Jagenberg winder and Pope reel as part of an equipment upgrade at the linerboard mill.

Green Bay Packaging has been awarded ISO 9002 quality systems registration at its Green Bay, Wis., mill.

Menasha Corp., Otsego, Mich., has successfully started up an OptiVision roll tracking/order fulfillment system from Honeywell Hi-Spec Solutions.

Longview Fibre, Longview, Wash., has completed a forming systems upgrade for its No. 1 paper machine. The upgrade from AES Engineered Systems includes V.I.D. technology.

EHV-Weidmann Industries Inc., St. Johnsbury, Vt., has ordered the first FloatLip former headboxes in North America from Voith Sulzer. The two headboxes will be installed on the No. 2 board machine, a double cylinder machine that produces electrical insulation and specialty fiberboard.

Fraser Papers, West Carrollton, Ohio, has achieved three million hours without a lost-time injury, representing more than four years of working without an OSHA-recordable accident.

Sealed Air Corp.’s Paper Mill Div. in Modena, Pa., has purchased 14 face dryers (48-in.-dia x 123 in.) from GL&V/Black Clawson-Kennedy through LG Industries. The order includes fourteen pair of bearing assemblies with split housings and soleplates for the dryer section.

Lake Utopia Paper, St. George, N.B., has ordered a new primary headbox to improve the quality and production rate on its No. 1 corrugating medium machine. The equipment is a Voith Sulzer Step Diffusor headbox with a ModuleJet-SD dilution control system.

CMPC has started up a Sunds Defibrator OxyTrac system at its Santa Fe mill in Nacimiento, Chile. This is the first ever two-stage oxygen delignification system installed for processing of eucalyptus globolus/nitens in Chile.

Industria Papelera del Caribe, Panama City, Panama, has ordered a Thermo Black Clawson/Lamort Batch Scavenger and two Thermo Black Clawson Mini-Screen pressure screens to upgrade the quality of pulp going to its tissue machine.
