Rita Foley has joined the company as sr. v.p. and chief information officer.

GREEN BAY PACKAGING INC.

Lyle Thomas has joined as packaging systems engr. Thomas was formerly a test engr. with Tetra Rex Inc., and will be responsible for the company’s box plants and their customers.

TEMBEC INC.

Jim Lopez has been appointed v.p., forest resource management, and Bruce L. Budd has been appointed corporate distribution mgr. Lopez will also continue as v.p. of the specialty products div. of Tembec’s forest products group.

FRASER PAPERS INC.

Richard “Dick” Arnold has been promoted to v.p. and mgr., Madawaska Operations. Previously, he held the position of interim mgr., Madawaska Operations, taking on the responsibilities of Bert Martin who became pres. of Fraser in September 1998.

MEAD

Sonya Janke has been named community affairs mgr., Scott Reed has been named environmental mgr., and John McCarthy has been named pulp production mgr at the Rumford mill.

SCOTT PAPER LIMITED

Donald J. Cayouette has been appointed exec. v.p. and CFO effective immediately, replacing David Erskine who has decided to pursue other opportunities elsewhere.

INTERNATIONAL PAPER

David Hauth has been appointed product mgr., text and cover papers. He will be responsible for assessing market trends, identifying new marketing opportunities and developing and implementing product strategies for Strathmore’s text and cover papers.

CONSOLIDATED PAPERS

In the Information Systems Dept., Wesley Mott has joined as project technology analyst, and Bruce Otto and Cindy LaBarge have joined as technology analysts. In the Research & Development Div., Dawn Dupee has been promoted to associate technician. At the Niagara Div., Robert DeMay has been promoted to paper machine shift supervisor. In the Converting Div., Harry Streekstra has been promoted to woodworking supervisor. In the Corporate Engineering Dept., Ronald Kinnick has been promoted to associate drafter. At the Water Quality Center, Jason Schillinger has been promoted to associate water quality specialist.

UPM-KYMMENE

Nina Norjama has been appointed environmental analyst of Printing Papers Marketing.

RAYONIER

Paul G. Boynton has been named dir., specialty pulp marketing and sales.

AMERICAN TISSUE CORP.

Edward I. Stein has joined as exec. v.p. and CFO. after 23 years with Perry H. Klopik & Sons Inc. In addition, Roland L. Gasper has resigned as CFO of American Tissue; he will remain with the company through a transition period as a consultant.

 

SUPPLIER COMPANIES

J&L FIBER SERVICES

John T. Creighton has been appointed dir., J&L Fiber Services–Europe. A 10-year J&L veteran, he will manage the company’s activities throughout Europe and work with the sales and technical support teams to maximize service to customers.

VULCAN CHEMICALS

John L. Holland recently joined the company as pres. of the Performance Systems Business Unit, which consists of Callaway Chemical Co., Vulcan Chemical Technologies Inc., and Vulcan’s sodium chlorite business.

GENCORP

Terry L. Hall has been named sr. v.p. and CFO of the aerospace and defense segment, Aerojet, and will serve as CFO of GenCorp after the company completes its planned spin-off of its Performance Chemicals and Decorative & Building Products businesses. The company also announced that Michael E. Hicks will be sr. v.p. and CFO of the new spin-off company.

NATIONAL SEAL CO.

George Zagorski has been named pres. of the company, and D. Kevin Blair has been named COO; Blair will also continue as the company’s general counsel. In addition, Linda Englander has been named marketing mgr., and Joel Fruendt has been appointed v.p. of sales and marketing.

RAYTHEON ENGINEERS & CONSTRUCTION

David L. Myers has been named pres. and COO. He was most recently the sr. executive for global services at Fluor Corp.

ROHM AND HAAS CO.

Luis Fernandez has been appointed European business mgr. for the company’s Specialty Polymers Business, with respon-sibility for the Rohm and Haas emulsions business in a number of important markets, including the leather, textiles and nonwovens, paper, and adhesives industries.

CENTRE INTERNATIONAL DE COUCHAGE

This center, a joint initiative of Groupe Laperrière & Verreault Inc., Mintech Canada Inc., and J.M. Huber Corp., has announced the appointment of Mr. Rene J. Francoeur as pres and gen. mgr. He will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the center’s pilot plant, as well as developing and supporting the center’s clientele in their inception and development of technologies and products.

ABB

Brad Loewen has been named business unit mgr. for the company’s pulp & paper MES group, with full P&L responsibility for the global MES business, including the Americas, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.

J.M. HUBER CORP.

David Hill has been named pres. of the newly formed Huber Engineered Materials, a business unit of J.M. Huber Corp.

MAXCESS INTERNATIONAL

Gerd Mathes has been appointed man-aging dir., Europe; Laurie Winton has been appointed marketing communications mgr.; and Ron Schmidt has been appointed dir., corporate development, as well as being appointed to the Maxcess Management Board.

FIFE CORP.

Chuck Mutter has been named exec. v.p., with responsibility for the day-to-day activities of Fife operations in Oklahoma City and Japan.

QUICKDRAFT

After announcing an expansion with the opening of an Office in the Atlanta, Ga., area, Quickdraft has hired Ron Welborn to fill the position of direct factory representative.

MOORE PROCESS AUTOMATION SOLUTIONS

William B. Moore has been appointed to the newly created position of v.p. of business development, and Peter F. Schiamo will replace him as v.p. of systems research and development. Moore, who remains vice chairman of the board of directors, will apply his industry knowledge and experience to coordinate the long-term technology and business strategies for the company.

SCAPA ROLLS

Kenneth C. Pearson has been promoted to plant gen. mgr. at the Scapa Rolls plant in Neenah, Wis. Previously he was product group mgr. at the Neenah plant.

ASTEN INC.

Charlie Abraham has been named v.p. and is responsible for marketing services; Cindy Pennington, also named v.p., serves as mgr. of business operations.

RHEOX INC.

Robert Klein has been named technical mgr., aqueous coatings & construction. In this new position, he will assume the responsibilities of the late David Bryant.

SCHROEDER INDUSTRIES

Brett D. Luedde has been appointed buyer in the company’s purchasing dept., and Nicholas R. Dennis has joined as sales mgr.–Western Europe, the company’s first international employee.

 

ASSOCIATIONS

CEPIPRINT

CEPIPRINT, the Assn. of European Publi-cation Paper Producers, announced the appointment of Robert A Varley as dir., market research and development. In addition, Emanuele Bona has succeeded Varley as market research mgr.

PACKAGING ASSN. OF CANADA

John R. Wilson has been appointed chairman of the PAC national board of directors for 1999-2000. Wilson is currently v.p. and gen. mgr. of Nordson Canada Ltd.

 

AWARDS

SWAGELOK VALVE GROUP

Ulrich H. koch, retired sr. engr. of the Swagelok Valve Group, has received a 1999 American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Award of Merit from ASTM standards writing Committee G4 on Compatibility and Sensitivity of Materials, in Oxygen-Enriched Atmos-pheres. The title of Fellow accompanies the award, which is the highest Society award granted to an individual member for distinguished service and outstanding participation in ASTM technical committee activities.

 

RETIREMENTS

BF GOODRICH

John Weaver, v.p. and group v.p. for textile and industrial coatings, will retire on August 1, 1999, after 34 years with the company.

NATIONWIDE PAPERS

James A. Warrell has retired from his position as mgr., Nationwide/South Bend. He opened Moser’s South Bend, Ind., warehouse in 1984; Nationwide acquired Moser-Schmidt in 1989 and appointed him mgr./South Bend.

 

OBITUARIES

PARSONS & WHITTEMORE

Tom Tippy Sr., 77, longtime Parsons & Whittemore mgr., passed away Friday, May 14, in Tuscaloosa. A native of Milo, Ark., Tippy’s successful career in the pulp and paper industry spanned more than 55 years, including a 15-year tenure with Kimberly-Clarke and over 30 years of association with the Landegger family and the Parsons & Whittemore organization.
