Process management system

WIC 100 from Raisio Chemicals is a complete wet end information system for paper and board machines that simultaneously measures chemical and physical parameters. Measurements can be transferred as either trend data directly to the operators or as processed data directly to control the process. Benefits include improved production rates, more uniform paper and board quality, and savings on raw materials, chemicals, and energy. Raisio Chemicals

Information management system

AspenTech's InfoPlus.21 is a process information management system that features powerful analysis tools, a historian, graphical user interfaces, numerous process interfaces, and a flexible database. It provides the foundation for integrated, high-value applications such as batch management, modeling, and advanced control that can maximize the profit potential of operating facilities. Aspen Technology Inc.

Winder drum coating

Jagflex, a patented cellular elastomer, is a compressible covering for winder drums that avoids any nip-related stretch in the paper. Its high volume compressibility is an important mechanical property; it can be compressed up to 60%. Jagflex coated winder drums lead to a greater contact area in the nip of the drum and paper roll-up to four times as much when compared with steel drums. Jagenberg AG

Cationic polymer

Buckman Laboratories has introduced VOC-free Bufloc 597, a high-molecular weight, high-charge density, cationic polymer in an aqueous solution that offers increased retention and drainage as well as improved formation and filler distribution. Bufloc 597 can extend the efficiency of the liquid-solids separation process in saveall, dissolved air flotation, clarifier, and sludge dewatering applications. Buckman Laboratories

Long span cranes

North American Industries has introduced a line of long span cranes. Its product line ranges from single girder 1/4 ton and 20-ft-span cranes to double girder 100 ton and 120-ft-span cranes. The cranes meet the CMAA classification of "D-Heavy Duty Cranes." The spans are available in component form, and the customer fabricates the cross girder to supplied fabrication drawings. North American Industries Inc.

Shower driver

The Nash Rolltech shower driver uses low-friction roller packages instead of ball screw construction, meaning that the rollnut efficiency remains constant even as the load increases. Features include adjustable stroke rate, infinitely adjustable stroke length, the ability to handle any shower length requirement, synchronous "crash proof" motor, a universal control panel, and inline or parallel mounting. Nash Engineering Co.

Self-cleaning filters

DCF clean-in-place filters remove solids (15 microns to 230 microns) from wet end additives. The filters are automatically cleaned in place, eliminating media replacement downtime and operator involvement. Because the filters are completely sealed, no water or air is introduced into the system. Wet end additives benefiting from these filters include retention aids, microparticles, fillers, starch, and resins. Ronningen-Petter

Dryer section troubleshooting

Dryer Wizard software by Single Keystroke can perform troubleshooting functions for any dryer cylinder, dryer group, or entire dryer section. It can detect non-condensable gases, superheated steam, flooded dryers, and broken or misaligned syphons. It can also determine ideal cylinder surface temperatures, optimize fabric tension and steam pressure differential, and reduce energy usage.

Single Keystroke Inc.

Water detection unit

The Hydrolert by Trico detects water in lubricating oils. Bearing and gear life are significantly extended because water contamination is indicated before damaging levels are reached. Oil changing or filtering occurs only when necessary. Productivity is increased and maintenance costs are reduced. The unit requires no external power supply, has a three-year battery life, and installs in less than five minutes. Trico Mfg. Corp.

Self-cleaning water filters

Tekleen automatic, self-cleaning water filtration systems operate by line pressure alone and are effective to five microns. Over 50 models range in size from 1/2 in. to 24 in. with flow rates from 10 gpm to 12,000 gpm on a single filter. Typical applications include cooling water, spray nozzle and gland seal protection, heat exchangers, and more. Stainless steel filters are priced the same as carbon steel filters. Automatic Filters Inc.

PCC

Opacarb PCC delivers outstanding performance at high levels (80 parts) in the formulation, developing high gloss and smoothness while enhancing brightness. Opacarb is suitable for offset and roto formulations at all coater speeds. With a narrow particle size distribution and choice of specific particle size from 0.4 microns to 0.8 microns, it provides exceptional coated paper performance. Specialty Minerals Inc.

Infrared web inspection systems

Model 2060 infrared web inspection systems can be added to new or existing production equipment, providing complete hole detection and classification capabilities as well as detection of visual defects like dirt, spots, scale, fish eyes, and splices. Outputs produced by the system can be used for control or activation of alarms, counters, sorters, spray marking systems, and other types of processing equipment. R.K.B. Opto-Electronics Inc.

Pulping chemicals

Condea Servo offers a wide range of pulping chemicals, including defoamers, dispersants, cleaners, and effluent defoamers for both sulfate and sulfite pulping operations. Products are adjusted to the specific needs of each operation in particular production processes. Condea Servo BV

Laboratory software

Testream/CS Interface application programs from AcquiData can improve lab productivity and testing accuracy by freeing personnel from clerical tasks and by guiding them through proper instrument usage and calibration activities. The applications are stored on the Testream/CS Server and delivered to the appropriate PC over a network connection via an Internet browser. AcquiData Inc.

Plate heat exchanger

The Compabloc is a plate heat exchanger from Alfa Laval that can be used in the following applications: foul/stripped condensate, chlorine dioxide exchangers, and hypochlorite coolers. Its totally bolted design allows quick disassembly of the steel frame in order to clean, maintain, repair, or replace. It handles pressures up to 450 psig and full vacuum temperatures up to 600¡F. Alfa Laval Thermal Inc.
