PAPER COMPANIES

LIBERTY PAPER INC.

The company has formed a team dedicated to the development of packaging papers for special applications. The team consists of Tomi Peterson, formerly of Hayes manufacturing, Neenah, Wis., and Rod Hamar, who was promoted from LPI’s technical manager to Product Development and Marketing Manager.

CONSOLIDATED PAPERS INC.

Connie Eppinger has been promoted to assistant mill superintendent in the Biron Division. Richard Kane of Wisconsin Rapids has been transferred to corporate engineering as senior project electrical engineer. Daniel Tork, also of Wisconsin Rapids, has been promoted to associate water quality specialist.

 

FOX RIVER PAPER CO.

Steve Wilson has been appointed v.p., sales and marketing. Most recently, Wilson held the position of national director of sales for Appleton Papers, where he led their market expansion into coated papers.

 

WEYERHAEUSER

Lori Slovik has recently been hired as a senior technical service representative. Slovik, who will be working in the Eastern Zone, has 18 years of industry experience. Oskar Nuut has been appointed to the position of national OEM account manager. In his new capacity, Nuut will continue to be located in Valley Forge, Pa., where he worked for the company in research and development.

 


GULF STATES PAPER CO.

Michael E. Case has been elected president and chief operating officer (COO) of the Tuscaloosa, Ala., based integrated forest products company. Case previously served as executive v.p. and COO before receiving the additional title of president. The new position will broaden Case’s responsibility to include most of the day-to-day functions of the company.

 

CRYSTAL TISSUE CO.

J. Scott Walker has been promoted to mill manager at Crystal’s Middletown, Ohio, paper mill. He will have responsibility for profit/loss of the mill including sales, operations, and support services.

 

MEAD

Anthony Oliver has been appointed financial business manager of the Rumford mill. In his new position, Oliver will be responsible for all financial analysis at the mill.

 

DOMAN INDUSTRIES LTD.

J.R. Frumento has been appointed interim president in place of H.S. Doman until June 2000 and V.R. Woods has been appointed v.p., Logging. H.S. Doman will continue as pres./CEO and a director of all the company’s operating subsidiaries, and will resume his duties at pres./CEO in June 2000.

 

NEXFOR INC.

Dominic Gammiero has been appointed president and CEO. He most recently served as exec. v.p. and COO of Nexfor. K. Linn Macdonald has been elected chairman of the board. Prior to his election, Macdonald held the position of president and CEO of Nexfor since 1991.

 

CHESAPEAKE CORP.

Dr. Peter L. Lee has been appointed v.p.-Asia Pacific Business Development. Lee, based in Hong Kong, will lead Chesapeake’s business development for specialty packaging and merchandising services in Asia.

 

BUCKEYE TECHNOLOGIES INC.

Four new officers have been elected. Gray Carter has been elected v.p., Absorbent Wood Fiber; Susan Crenshaw was elected v.p., Product Development-Specialty Cellulose; Frank Iezzi was elected v.p., Americas and Far East Nonwovens Sales; and Dan Moore was elected v.p., Process Technology.

 

PLAINWELL INC.

Bryan Griffin has been named corporate controller by the Mendota Heights, N.Y., producer of value-added paper products.

 

SAPPI

Jennifer L. Miller has been promoted to the new position of exec. v.p., Administration. In this capacity, Miller will have responsibility for Supply Chain Management, Communications, Environment Health & Safety, Legal, and other administrative functions. Miller’s most recent position was v.p. and general counsel overseeing Legal, Purchasing, and Fiber Procurement functions.

 

TENNECO PACKAGING INC.

Andrew A. Campbell has been named chief financial officer (CFO), effective with the spin-off of Tenneco Packaging; and James L. Hatch has been named chief information officer (CIO).

 

LIBERTY DIVERSIFIED

Bill Kovack has been named to the position of group v.p., Packaging & Related Products of the Minnesota-based company. In this newly created role, the current general managers of all LDI packaging-related companies will report to Kovack, who will work out of company headquarters in New Hope, Minn.

 


LYONS FALLS INC.

Robert Strasburg has been appointed president by WICOR, Americas, parent company of Lyons Falls Pulp & Paper Inc. Mr. Strasburg will be responsible for day-to-day operations of the Lyons Falls Pulp & Paper mill.

 

KRUGER INC.

Michel Vachon has been named v.p., Manufacturing, Corner Brook Pulp and Paper, and Manistique Papers, Inc.

 

DONSIDE PAPER CO.

Jim Gehrman has been appointed president of the manufacturer’s North American operations. He had previously been general sales manager, eastern region, at Fraser Papers in Connecticut.

 

LAKE SUPERIOR PAPER

Bob Johnson has been appointed wood buyer at LSPI and will work out of its Duluth office. Sharon Dupee of Foxboro, Wis., has been named stores technician.

 

GEORGIA-PACIFIC CORP.

Christian Fischer has been promoted to senior director, containerboard sales-containerboard and packaging. Allen Tate has been named director-national accounts, packaging.

 

GARDEN STATE PAPERS CO.

Brendan H. Kissane has been named technical assistant in the company’s stock preparation department.

 

SUPPLIER COMPANIES

BE&K INC.

John W. Redmon has been named chief operating officer and exec. v.p. of the company. Redmon, who was also elected to the BE&K Inc. Board of Directors in June, will be responsible for the company’s construction, engineering, and maintenance operations. Carlos F. Pittella has been named director of business development Latin America. In this position, Mr. Pittella will be responsible for identifying market needs, leading company initiatives, and management of strategic customer services to Latin American market segments of the pulp and paper and wood products industries.


OSMONICS

Keith B. Robinson will join the company as senior v.p., Finance and Administration. Robinson will also serve as CFO.

 

ENGELHARD CORP.

Douglas Usifer has been appointed marketing manager of industrial markets for the company’s Specialty Pigments & Additives Group. In his new role, Usifer will be responsible for marketing the group’s product lines of special effect pigments. Kathleen C. Nitti has been appointed director of specialty films for the company’s Specialty Pigments & Additives Group. Ms. Nitti will be responsible for the specialty films business worldwide. Curtis C. Martin, an executive with 25 years of experience at the company, has been named group v.p. and GM of the global Paper Pigments and Additives Group.

 

INDUSTRIAL SCIENTIFIC CORP.

Jeffrey B. Morgan was elected to the newly created position of v.p., Operations. Morgan will work out of the company’s headquarters in Oakdale, Pa.

 

SPECIALTY MINERALS INC.

Chris Wimberger has been hired as technical sales representative for the north central U.S. encompassing Minnesota and Wisconsin. He will provide technical and sales support to both current and future customers.

 

PMCI PREDICTIVE TECHNOLOGY

Andy Rein has been promoted to v.p. In addition to managing national accounts, Rein will focus on strategic planning and developing a national sales organization.

 

LAMINATIONS

Wade Bue has been hired as an account manager at the Ontario, Calif., facility. He will be responsible for serving Laminations’ VBoard customers in Southern California. Sheyre Boswell has been promoted to inside sales partner at the Central facility in Appleton, Wis. Craig Olson has been hired as a cores and tubes account manager for its West facility in Ontario, Calif. Olsen formerly worked Inland Paperboard and Packaging of Los Angelos.

 

BETTIS CORP.

Wilfred M. Krenek has been named pres. Krenek was most recently v.p. and CFO at the Daniel Measurement and Control Division of Emerson Electric Co. He had previously been associated with Bettis as its v.p., CFO, Sec., and Tres. from 1994 to 1997.

 

CDM ENGINEERS & CONSTRUCTORS INC.

David J. Pavlas has joined the firm’s Syracuse office as a senior project manager. Pavlas brings to CDM E&C 13 years of experience in industrial process engineering and construction experience, with particular expertise in the pulp and paper, printing, and packaging industries.

 

PAPEREXCHANGE.COM

Duane DeSisto has been appointed to chief financial officer. As CFO, DeSisto will oversee the credit, account finance, operations, and human resource departments.

 

AWARDS

 

MARCUS WALLENBERG PRIZE

Pekka Eskelinen, Raimo Virta, and Vesa Vuorinen received the prize for their development of a unique technology used at the drying of the paper web on papermaking machines, which has enabled productivity to increase by more than 20%. The prize winners worked for many years at Valmet Oyj, The Pansio Works, where the technology was developed. Eskelinen is now regional manager for Jaakko Poyry Engineering Oyj in Kouvola, Finland. Virta is retired and lives in Turku, Finland. Vuorinen is now R&D engineer at the Valmet Pansio Works in Turku, Finland.

 

OMNOVA

 

The company has presented its Chairman’s Award to Dr. Nick Triantafillopoulos, manager of advanced development for OMNOVA’s performance chemicals business. The Chairman’s Award, also called The Eagle of Excellence, recognizes exceptional performance by employees who make a significant and lasting contribution to the company’s long-term objectives.

P.A.C.E. INTERNATIONAL UNION

Larry Myers died Wednesday, Sept. 15, in OdenvilleX, Ala. Myers was an international representative for the union.
