PAPER COMPANIES

REPUBLIC GROUP INC.

Ed Cook has been named mill mgr. for the company’s Commerce City, Colo., paperboard mill. He is an 18-year veteran of the paperboard industry as production mgr. and mill controller and served as office mgr. of a gypsum wallboard plant.

RAYONIER

George C. Kay has been named v.p. and corporate controller, and James M. Rutledge has been named v.p., finance and taxes.

MEAD

Duane E. Collins and Heidi G. Miller have been elected to the Mead Corpor-ation Board of Directors. The Board of Directors has also elected Sue K. McDonnell as v.p., gen. counsel, and secy. She succeeds Thomas E. Palmer who recently retired from the company.

CONSOLIDATED PAPERS

David Farnsworth has joined the corporate engineering department as a mechanical engr. Tom Wroblewski is joining the department as a sr. mechanical engr. David Panzer has advanced to principal electrical engr. Steven Schulze has been promoted to sr. electrical engr. Patrick Zdun has advanced to project electrical engr. Joel Gustafson has been promoted to asst. project instrument engr. Erick Braaksma has been promoted to project instrumentation engineering associate. Tim Rech and Kent Christensen have advanced to the position of sr. project industrial engr. Martin Burkhardt has been promoted to asst. project chemical engr. Kevin Provost has been promoted to principle drafter. Dale Armitage, Guy Berard, and James Molski have been promoted to the position of drafter. Ray Reas has been named CAD system administrator. Kate Middelstadt has advanced to sr. project drafter and will assume the duties of asst. CAD administrator.

In the Paperboard Products Division, Gary Glodoski will assume duties traditionally carried out by the mill mgr., serving as the main contact for the issues and concerns of the division employees.

In the Converting Division, Terry Dolan has been appointed mill project leader. In the Kraft Division, Tim Patiel has been promoted to power & recovery shift supervisor.

In the Wisconsin Rapids Division, Petti Kurz has been promoted to technician. Jeffrey A. Hauke has been promoted to shift supervisor, OMBC/finishing, Nos. 12 and 15 lines. Thomas Sheunemann has been promoted to shift supervisor, Nos. 12 and 15 lines. Lloyd Reiman has been promoted to board mill mgr. Larry Lassa has been promoted to maintenance supt.-mechanical at Wisconsin Rapid’s Division base mill. Kirk Ermatinger has joined the division as safety, health & loss prevention coordinator.

In the Information Technology Dept. Scott Cherney has been promoted to strategic planner, and Tom Reitter has been advanced to manufacturing applications mgr.

In the Stevens Point Division, Leroy Konkol has been promoted to asst. paper machine superintendent, No. 34. Also in the Stevens Point Division, Bradley "Joe" Berry has been promoted to paper machine supt., No. 34.

In the Niagra Division Becky Wildenberg has been named water quality supervisor. John Wahlstrom has been appointed sr. environmental associate.

Doug Anderson has transferred to Lake Superior Paper Industries, as safety, health & loss prevention coordi- nator. In addition, Diane Schmidt- Gobin has been promoted to environmental supervisor at Lake Superior Industries.

INTERNATIONAL PAPER

Thomas M. Salzillo has been named technical leader-systems with Interna-tional Paper. Salzillo will be responsible for all activities in the area of process control and information systems. Melisse De La Mare has accepted the position of Specification Sales Consultant with the Fine Papers division of International Paper. Based in Portland, Oregon, De La Mare will work with specifiers and graphic design professionals in the Northwest sales territory.

GEORGIA-PACIFIC

Georgia-Pacific Corp. promoted Val Troyanowski to shipping supervisor in the finishing, distribution and planning department at their Port Edwards mill.

 

SUPPLIER COMPANIES

NATIONAL SEAL CO.

Steve Martin has been named Southeast regional mgr. in Baton Rouge, La., and Bob LaBoube has been named v.p. of construction.

SCAPA ROLLS

Marlin Ladd has been named plant gen. mgr. at Scapa’s Belmont, N.H., plant. He will oversee the daily operations of manufacturing, quality control and customer service.

ASHLAND

The Industrial Chemicals & Solvents Division has named John E. Shaheen corporate accounts mgr. for its environmental services business. In this new position, Shaheen will be responsible for managing the division’s corporate accounts in the Southeast region.

ALFA LAVAL

Nadeja Szfranski has accepted a position as application engr. for the G&H and Industrial Pump Divisions.

Chris Klawonn, of Kenosha Wisconsin, has accepted a position as application engr., Industrial Pump Division.

Ingersoll-Rand

The Air Compressor Group of Ingersoll-Rand Company has named Timothy J. Winfrey to the position of v.p. and gen. mgr. of its Reciprocating Division, and Ted Doheny to the position of v.p. and gen. mgr. of Air Compressor Parts.

NATIONAL STARCH AND CHEMICAL

Wayne Harkins has been appointed as plant manager of the company’s starch-manufacturing facility in North Kansas City, MO.

SIMONS ENGINEERING

Neil Zaccari, a process optimization specialist with over 18 years of pulp and paper industry experience, has joined the Simons International Corporation’s Intelligent Systems Group staff. Zaccari will spearhead an accelerated initiative to use intelligent systems to improve their clients’ operational efficiency and deployment of capital.

International Specialty Products

Sunil Kumar has been elected pres., CEO, and a member of the board of directors of ISP. The company has also announced that Samuel J. Heymann will remain as the chairman of the company. Kumar will succeed Dr. Peter Heinze, pres. and COO since 1996, who is leaving the company to pursue personal interests.

REISROBOTICS

Jon W. Heyl has been names v.p. and gen mgr. of North American operations. He brings to this position more than 15 years of engineering, sales, and management. Steve Przepalkowski joins Reis Robotics as sr. mechanical engr.

VALMET

After a successful tenure as CEO for Valmet Calendars, a division of Valmet’s Paper and Board Machinery Business Group,

Mikko Helander has been appointed CEO of Valmet Converting Group. He will be based in the UK.

GRAPHIC PACKAGING CORP.

David W. Scheible has been promoted to the position of COO. The appoint-ment includes responsibility for the daily operations of the company’s facilities throughout North America.

VOITH SULZER

Dr.-Ing Hans K. Dahl has been appointed to the Board of Management of Voith Sulzer Papiermaschinen GmbH & Co. KG, Ravensburg, Germany. In this new position he will be responsible for technology and order processing. His successor in Heidenheim is Dipl.-Ing. Karl Josef Böck, who will become the director of the Technology Division at Voith Sulzer Papiermaschinen GmbH & Co. KG.

 

ASSOCIATIONS

Fieldbus Foundation

John Berra, pres. of Fisher-Rosemount, has been re-elected chairman of the Fieldbus Foundation. The foundation’s new board members also include Mark Fondl of Schneider Electirc, Yogesh Kansal of Dupont, Norio Nakamura of Yokogawa Electric Co., Senji Onoki of Yamatake Industrial Systems Co., Ltd., and Mike Zaharna of Elsag Bailey.

 

RETIREMENTS

NATIONAL STARCH & CHEMICAL

James A. Kennedy will retire from the ICI Board on June 30. He will also retire as chairman and CEO of the company, after 37 years’ service.

CONSOLIDATED PAPERS

Marlene Stranz, Virginia R. Steen, and Susan L. Bobrowski have retired from the main office. Nancy J. Case, Jerry A. Zuelke, Lydia J. Pyrne, and Laurence R. Weinfurter have retired from the Converting Div. Nancy Johnson has retired from Inter Lake Papers after 39 years of service.

Edwin J. Heller has retired from the Wisconsin Rapids Div. after nearly 40 years of service.

Richard S. Omernik, Edward W. Radomski, and Donald F. Kottke have retired from the Wisconsin River Div. Rich Cesal has retired from the information systems dept. after more than 14 years of service.
