Wrapping station

Valmet’s TopPack roll wrapping method uses a new system that combines one to three overlapped layers of the wrapper sheet. Designed for all widths of rolls, it can be installed as part of a new roll wrapping station, or as part of an upgrade kit. The diameter of the roll is up to 1.5 meters.

Laser-based alignment

Fixturlaser 200, by VibrAlign, uses lasers to position rolls for web handling operations. The system can align large roll facilities, with memory able to store eight measurements of 50 rolls each. Result resolution can be as fine as one micron. Based on similar technology, the Fixturlaser Shaft 100 or 200 can both be upgraded to a Fixturlaser Roll 200.

Oil analysis

Kleentest, an oil analysis report from Kleentek, is designed to provide easily understood testing data for hydraulic and lubricating oils. The test checks for particulates and products of oil oxidation at the molecular level. Kleentest examines gravimetric weight, colorimetric value, total water content and acid numbers, kinematic viscosity, and specific gravity.

Strapping system

Caristrap’s 105WG non-metallic strapping system -- a substitute for 1 1/4 x .031 steel strapping -- is made of elastic polyester fibers that ensure load integrity without sharp edges to damage paper loads. At 1/7 the weight of steel, 105WG does not require protective gear when handled. 105WG strapping is unaffected by cold, heat, or high humidity. Each coil weighs under 10 lb, and holds 660 ft of strapping. Caristrap

Digester capping valve

Neles Controls’ digester capping valve solutions offer fast, automated operation of the chip fill process that can be accessed remotely for increased safety. The units are equipped with security features to prevent false operation during pressurization. Retrofitting is easy because the lower half of the valve body can be modified in accordance with the digester top flange for a direct fit. Neles Controls

Slitter rewinder

The Goebel Optima slitter rewinder from Matik North America features a slitter cassette for fast changeovers, a wrapped sheer slitting system, and unwind brakes that handle a wide range of materials. The rewinder is also equipped with short, downward web paths to ensure precision winding results, and variable tension controls to prevent jams and breaks. Matik North America

Slice lip actuator

AutoSlice CDW, a new actuator system for headbox slice lip automation from Honeywell-Measurex, has CDWeb technology embedded in its actuator body. The system features a 60 mm footprint, 15.5 kN output force, variable speed, local position-based bend limits, and an electronic torque limiter. A manual handwheel for backup operation includes a slip clutch.

Calender

The Janus MK 2 for online calendering has a 45º frame design for smoother handling of the paper web. This allows the web threading equipment to be reduced by up to 80%. The new layout also provides a climactically neutral environment, preventing heat accumulation around the rolls. Access to all areas of the Janus MK 2 can result in reduced maintenance.

Tensile tester

Lorentzen & Wettre’s ZD tensile tester measures internal bond strength in multi-ply paper with a high degree of accuracy. The coefficient of variation is as low as 2% to 4%. Since the measurement testers are fully automatic, the tester eliminates any potential for human error. Measurements are taken according to the TAPPI T 541 and SCAN P80 standards, and the calibration is traceable. Lorentzen & Wettre
