Princeton Paper Co., Fitchburg, Mass., has completed a paper machine up-grade project supplied by GE Industrial Systems. The installation included Innova-tion Series a.c. adjustable-speed drives, motors, and controls.

To improve the efficiency of its coarse screening loop and reduce fiber losses, Republic Paperboard Co., Hutchinson, Kans., has purchased a Combisorter Screen from Voith Sulzer. The Combi-sorter will be installed in the No. 1 paper machine’s filler tailing system, replacing the existing vibration screens.

Mead Coated Board Inc., Phenix City, Ala., has contracted Jansen Combustion and Boiler Technologies Inc. to design and supply a new Overfire air system, including High Energy Combustion Air Nozzles, for its wastewood fueled No. 2 power boiler.

Willamette Industries Inc., Johnson-burg, Pa., has completed the startup of a new steam and condensate system supplied by Thermal Systems Group as part of the No. 1 paper machine rebuild. The main and after size cascade systems feature flow control and flexibility in dryer pressure control to accommodate the machine’s wide range of grades. A paper machine condensate flash steam system for pocket ventilation preheating was included to maximize steam use efficiency.

West Linn Paper Co., West Linn, Ore., has implemented the latest version of Millworks Customer Service software from Computronix. The mill uses Millworks for customer and product management, quotation and order entry, product shipping, invoicing, and management reporting. Millworks is interfaced with ABB’s product tracking system (PTS). In addition, West Linn Paper Co. has ordered dryer heads from the Lawton Co. for its No. 3 paper machine. Lawton will design, cast, machine, and ASME code the 48-in.-dia. heads for 75 psi operating pressure.

Stone Container (Canada) Inc., Portage du Fort, Que., has contracted Jansen Combustion and Boiler Technolo-gies Inc. to design and supply a new Overfire air system, including High Energy Combustion Air Nozzles, to incinerate dilute non-condensible gases (DNCG) in its wastewood fueled power boiler.

Domtar Communication Papers, Cornwall, Ont., has ordered a James Ross Ltd. double doctor for its No. 6 paper machine granite roll.

Fraser Papers has ordered dryer heads from the Lawton Co. for the No. 9 paper machine at its Edmunston, N.B., mill. Lawton will design, cast, machine, and ASME code the 60-in.-dia. heads for 35 psi operating pressure.

Domtar Communications Paper, Cornwall, Ont., has selected James Ross Ltd. Superflex doctors for its No. 1 paper machine dryer upgrade. Domtar Paper will be installing a total of eight Superflex doctors in its No. 1 paper machine dryer section.

Fort James Corp. has begun implementing ABB’s PPS/Schedule and PPS /Trim for improved planning at its folding boxboard mill in Kalamazoo, Mich. The new system will automate and opti-mize machine scheduling and trim planning, as well as making schedules and order status available electronically to mill employees. The system will manage production on the mill’s two paper machines, two winders, and rewinder.

Champion International Corp. has selected Manugistics’ e-Chain Solutions for supply chain optimization. Champion will integrate the supply chain software with its existing enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. The main users of the new software will be at the corpor-ate facility in Hamilton, Ohio, where Champion’s order services and logistics groups are located.

Smurfit Stone Container, Wabash, Ind., has contracted with the Lawton Co. for the supply of new gearing for its No. 2 paper machine.

Chetwynd Pulp, Chetwynd, B.C., has purchased a Centrifilter from Voith Sulzer, Appleton, Wis. The Centrifilter screen will be installed in the water treatment plant of the zero-effluent discharge pulp mill.

Celulosa Corrugados de Sonora S.A. de C.V., Navojoa, Sonora, Mexico, has ordered Liquid Cyclone coarse cleaners and Ultra-V pressure screens from Thermo Black Clawson Inc. The stock preparation system upgrade for the mill’s 300 tpd OCC plant is intended to improve pulp quality.

Papel Misionero S.A.I.F.C. has announced a second rebuild of its packaging paper machine at Puerto Mineral, Argentina. Voith S.A. Maquinas e Equipamentos will rebuild the approach flow system, wire section, dryer section, pope reel, and winder. The machine produces sack kraft paper and kraft liner in an 80 g/m2 to 220 g/m2 basis weight range. As furnish, 100% pine kraft pulp is used.

Klabin Fabricadora de Papel e Celulose, Telemaco Borba, Parana, Brazil, has ordered a Beloit AutoTrim automatic slitter positioning system. Slitter positioning with the new system will be complete within 45 sec at a tolerance of +/-0.2mm, regardless of how many slitters need positioning.

Kimberly-Clark de Mexico SA de CV, Escamela Iztaczoquitlan, Mexico, has ordered one screening system from Voith Sulzer for the approach flow to the headbox of its No. 7 paper machine. The three-stage screening system includes VPS pressure screens and C-Bar screen basket technology.

Papelera Industrial Potosina S.A. de C.V., San Luis Potosi, Mexico, has started up a steam and condensate system supplied by Thermal Systems Group for its No. 1 paper machine rebuild. The cascade system features dryer pressure control to accommodate the maximum code pressure rating of the existing dryer cylinders while maximizing production of corrugating medium and linerboard.
