Abitibi-Consolidated Inc. has purchased Lorentzen & Wettre’s automated paper testing system, L&W Autoline 300, at six of its mills, including: Shawinigan, Que.; Ft. Frances, Que.; Thunder Bay, Ont.; Grand Falls, Nfld.; Iroquois Falls, Ont.; and La Baie, Que.

Boise Cascade has ordered 42-in. fabricated refiner plates from the Lawton Co. for its Jones refiner at the Deridder, La., mill.

Kruger Inc., Corner Brook, Nfld., has placed an order with Voith Sulzer for a rebuild of its existing No. 7 paper machine top wire unit into a DuoFormer D. The rebuild is intended to enhance paper quality, particularly improving sheet two-sidedness for better printability.

Bay State Paper has installed a 36-in.-dia. paper machine dryer from VanTek at its mill in Hyde Park, Mass.

Boise Cascade in Wallula, Wash., has contracted with AES Engineered Systems for a forming system upgrade on its No. 2 paper machine, which produces corrugating medium.

The Champion International mill in Bucksport, Maine, has ordered a roll handling system from Raumaster. The order includes two bi-directional short pitch slat conveyors and a system of five soft-cradles with pneumatically powered roll kickers/stoppers. The system will transfer rewound rolls to an existing conveyor, which feeds the mill’s wrapping line. Delivery of the equipment is due in June 2000. The Bucksport mill also recently installed several showers and EMO III’s from AES Engineered Systems on its No. 5 paper machine.

Fraser Papers has contracted with the Lawton Co. for the design and manufacture of new taper cone pulleys to upgrade the speed potential of the No. 2 paper machine at its Park Falls, Wis., mill.

Potlatch Corp.’s new pulp mill in Cloquet, Minn., has installed an Elixir order fulfillment system by Majiq. The Elixir system is a regularly updated set of standardized, common software designed specifically for both "make to order" and "ship from stock" requirements.

Skeena Cellulose has ordered Ahlstrom’s Lo-Solids cooking technology for two continuous digesters at its Prince Rupert, B.C., mill. The equipment is scheduled to be operational by June 2000.

Jefferson Smurfit Corp. in Lafayette, Ind., has started up 42-in.-dia. paper machine dryers from VanTek.

Crown Vantage in Parchment, Mich., has installed Voith’s Millennium quality control management system on its Yankee No. 1, producing specialty paper. The system includes: three AdvantagePlus scanning measurement systems, a full family of Profilmatic CD actuator and control systems, and an InfoPac information system with a reel quality browser and productivity tools. Also, Crown Vantage has ordered Millenium systems for the Beloit and Bagley machines at the Parchment mill, and the No. 2 and No. 14 paper machines at the Milford, N.J., mill.

FiberMark’s Brattleboro, Vt., mill has recently installed a Vincent CP-12 screw press. The Vincent press will be used to dewater primary clarifier sludge that is first thickened to 22% solids with a vacuum coil filter. It will also increase the consistency to the 45% range, reducing hauling and landfill charges.

Edwards Tissue, Miami, Fla., recently purchased showers and EMO III oscillators from AES Engineered Systems.

Simkins Industries has contracted with the Lawton Co. for the supply of new gearing on the No. 1 paper machine at its New Haven, Conn., mill. Forty-six gears have been ordered for a July 2000 installation.

Fox River Paper has ordered 17-in. and 24-in. fabricated refiner plates from the Lawton Co. for the Pilao RTD refiners at the Housatonic, Mass., mill.

Daishowa of Quebec, Canada, has purchased a Da Vinci quality control system from Honeywell-Measurex to replace a Measurex 2000 system. The new Da Vinci QCS will feature wet-end and dry-end scanners on the board machine. It was the 100th Da Vinci system that has been purchased.

United CorrStack of Reading, Penn., has purchased a 4000 gravity strainer from AES Engineered Systems.

Six brush showers and EMO III oscillators for cleaning de-ink washer cylinders have been ordered from AES Engineered Systems by Garden State Paper in Garfield, N.J.

Rock-Tenn in Battle Creek, Mich., recently purchased a model 4045 Gravity Strainer from AES Engineered Systems.

Georgia Pacific has ordered showers and EMO III oscillators from AES Engineered Systems in order to upgrade the cleaning and conditioning systems at the Woodland, Maine, mill.

Fort James Corp. has contracted with the Lawton Co. for the design and manufacture of new taper cone pulleys to upgrade the speed potential of the No. 3 board machine at the Pennington, Ala., mill.

Caronajes Estrella S.A. de C.V. has ordered a complete coating kitchen from GAW for its new coating system project in Tizayca, Mexico.
