WESTVACO

The senior management team for the recently formed Packaging Resources Group has been announced. It includes: James L. Martin, sr. v.p. and mgr., sales and customer resources; James F. Jordan, sr. v.p. and mgr., marketing and new business development; Gilbert M. Gillespie, sr. v.p., primary operations; and O.B. Fears Jr., v.p., consumer packaging.

WEYERHAEUSER

Jeffrey R. Brundage has assumed the position of market business v.p., commercial printing papers. In his new capacity, he has re-located to corporate headquarters in Federal Way,Wash. Rob Melton has been promoted to market mgr., commercial printing papers, in the Fine Papers div..

GEORGIA-PACIFIC

Ralph Feck has been named v.p., Maine operations.

CONSOLIDATED PAPERS

In the information technology department, David Bongers has been named millwide systems mgr. for Inter Lake Papers. Tom Janke has advanced to field sales mgr., paperboard products. In the Wisconsin Rapids div., Bernie Berger has been promoted to technical mgr.; Christopher Roth has been promoted to production line superintendent, No. 14.; Brad Benz has joined the company as a corporate process engineer; Glen Noska has been promoted to paper machine/materials shift supervisor; and Don Schillinger has advanced to maintenance coordinator. In the Stevens Point div., Paula Klevene has been promoted to maintenance/plant and property assistant. In the converting div., Steve Gardner has been promoted to production mgr. Greg Boehm has been promoted to electrical construction supervisor in the corporate maintenance dept.

AMERICAN TISSUE

The company has announced the appointment of Stan Garland as v.p., towel and tissue jumbo roll sales.

TEMPLE-INLAND

Harold C. Maxwell has been promoted to exec. v.p. Maxwell will continue to serve as chairman and CEO of Temple-Inland Forest Products Corp. Bart J. Doney has been elected group v.p., packaging and James C. Foxworthy has been elected group v.p., paperboard. Richard L. Reisenweber has been elected v.p., environmental affairs.

WAUSAU-MOSINEE PAPER

John E. Katchko has been elected v.p., technical and product development for the specialty paper group. Daniel Olvay has resigned from his position as pres. and CEO. San Orr, Jr., chairman of the board, will assume CEO duties until a successor is found. Olvay also resigned from his position as director.

INTERNATIONAL PAPER

The Fine Papers division has announced the appointment of Alexander Greene to the position of account mgr. He will represent Via by Hammermill, Brite-Hue, Regalia, and other Hammermill premium papers in the New York City, New Jersey, and Eastern Pennsylvania markets. David Beebe, Roger Ballenger, and Jeff Bergeson have all been appointed to the position of district sales executive, Strathmore Papers, part of the Fine Papers Div. Beebe will promote and sell Strathmore in the Ohio Valley; Ballenger will be responsible for merchant and specification sales in the Carolinas and Virginia; and Bergeson will represent Strathmore in the Minnesota, Iowa, North and South Dakota, Missouri, Kansas, and Nebraska markets.

GILMAN PAPER

Paul Blackman has been named sr. v.p., sales and marketing. Jay Jordon has been appointed mgr., sales operations.

NEWSPRINT SOUTH

Tony Bond has been promoted to CFO, and Peter Pugh has been named mill mgr. at the Grenada, Miss., newsprint mill. Jack Von Runnen has joined the company as v.p., marketing.

PORT TOWNSEND PAPER

Bruce McComas has been named v.p. and assistant mill mgr. McComas’s new position includes responsibility for fiber management at the Port Townsend mill. He will also continue to manage the pulping, power, and recovery area. Randy Hass has been named national account mgr., retail packaging.

WILLAMETTE INDUSTRIES

Doug Schwartz has been promoted to business mgr., converting papers. Ryan McDonnell has been promoted to account exec., printing and publishing papers, effective immediately. In his new assignment, McDonnell will be responsible for the sale of commercial printing specialty papers in the Southeastern U.S.

 

ASSOCIATIONS

AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR TESTING AND MATERIALS (ASTM)

Harry K. Hammond III has been selected as the first recipient of the ASTM Committee E12 on Appearance of Materials Richard S. Hunter Award. The Hunter Award was created in 1999 to recognize E12 members whose distinguished leadership has resulting in outstanding contributions to the committee, ASTM, and industry. Hammond joined ASTM in 1946 and has been a member of E12 since its founding in 1948.

FLEXIBLE PACKAGING ASSOCIATION (FPA)

Marla Donahue has been elected pres. Ms. Donahue began her tenure at FPA’s annual meeting in February. She replaces Glenn E. Braswell.

FIELDBUS FOUNDATION

Chuck J. Micallek has joined Joe Fuchs of BP Oil as co-chairman of its North American End User Council (NA-EUC). Micallef currently serves as v.p., sales and marketing, Foss NIRSystems, and will aid in overseeing NA-EUC member services and recruitment activities.

Staff specialists assigned to the new project development group include: Terry Bliss, Ken Stuart, and W.G. Wilkinson. Joseph P. Tomsula has joined the company to serve as a sr. project mgr. Michael A. Schmok has been appointed a paper machine staff specialist. Michael P. Heldsinger has joined the company to head up project support and controls.

Joe Beaton joins the sales force as the company’s first sales mgr. for nonwovens.

ITT INDUSTRIES

Robert H. Manion III has been named v.p., global marketing for the Industrial Pump Group.

Steve Quamme joins the firm as exec. v.p., business development. Waverly Deutsch, Ph.D., joins the firm as exec. v.p., marketing and strategy.

GSE LINING TECHNOLOGY

Daniel A. Shepard has been named v.p. of marketing and business development. He will be responsible for the company’s global marketing strategies and business development activities. Steve Eckhart has been promoted to v.p., sales, U.S. Services Div.

J&L FIBER SERVICES

Brian Lacy has been appointed to represent the company in the southern regional sales area. Lacy will represent J&L products and services in Arkansas, Kentucky, northern Alabama, and western Tennessee.

ARC INTERNATIONAL

The company recently announced the promotion of four senior level managers within the Charlotte facility. Promotions were awarded to: Grant Field, national service mgr.; Barry King, technical services mgr.; Steve Wilkinson, gen mgr.; and Steve Woodard, national account mgr.

BUCKMAN LABORATORIES

The company has appointed five managers to key positions: Robin Luck, director of corporate sales; Jeffery Thorne, director, technical resources; Robert Mauszycki, director, sales/northern regions; James Doan, director, sales/southern regions; and Michael Alpert, director, administration.

HK SYSTEMS

Thomas L. Stricker, Jr. has been promoted to the position of v.p., general counsel and secretary, effective immediately. In his new role, Stricker is responsible for managing all legal affairs of the company.

SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC

Michael F. Lesley has been named v.p., sales and marketing for the North American Div. In his new role, Lesley will have responsibility for U.S. filed sales organization and all segment and product marketing activities aligned around its four key market segments: residential construction, commercial and industrial construction, original equipment manufacturers, and strategic accounts.

Raymond L. Masse will head the company following an employee buyout. Masse will be joined by current gen. mgr., Debra Breed.

Mark Collins has been appointed director of marketing, responsible for developing and implementing a global marketing strategy.

JACOBS-SIRRINE CONSULTANTS

Daniel J. Cenatempo has been appointed v.p., managing director. In this position, Cenatempo will be responsible for managing Jacobs Engineering Pulp and Paper strategic planning group located in Atlanta, Ga.

Sean Thornton has assumed the position of representative, northeastern U.S.

WIELAND ELECTRIC

Jim Katasak has been appointed southeast regional mgr. Katasak is responsible for the management, recruiting, training, and evaluation of direct field sales personnel, representatives, and distributors.

 

AWARDS
BABCOCK & WILCOX Ralph E. Spada has been named the 21st recipient of B&W’s prestigious Engineering Honors Award. Spada has received the award based on his numerous contributions to the development of the company’s products and services. Instituted in 1983, the award honors employees who have made extraordinary, long-term contributions to the company.

 

RETIREMENTS
WILLAMETTE INDUSTRIES
The company has announced the retirement of Samuel C. Wheeler, long-time board member and descendent of the family who founded Santiam Lumber Co. which became part of Willamette Industries when it was formed in 1967.
