ALIGNMENT SYSTEMS

Prüftechnik has introduced a new laser-optical alignment system that is designed for lining up bore centers and bearing shells on crank and camshafts. The system can handle thermal growth and shaft sag, as well as indicating direction from the actual to the desired position, according to the German company. The device's sensor mounting brackets are said to allow the measurement of bore diameters ranging from 130 mm to 3,852 mm.Fax: 49 89 99 616 200 or www.pruftechnik.com

BEARINGS

ProTech Bearing Isolators provide advanced bearing protection for a range of rotating equipment including pumps, gearboxes and electric motors, according to the supplier, John Crane. The equipment is said to stop lubricant leakage and prevent outside contaminants from entering the bearing housing. The isolators are made from a material that is non-sparking, resistant to chemicals and has a minimal friction coefficient. The US manufacturer says that one of the tool's benefits over the more traditional bronze isolators is that any contact caused by equipment malfunction will not cause dangerously high levels of heat generation. FEED SYSTEMS

Custom Chemical Feed Systems have been designed by Neptune Chemical Pump to meet customers' exact needs. These skid-mounted systems are factory piped, wired and tested, the US company claims. The manufacturer says that it has already built such systems for applications including chemical processing and power generation, as well as wastewater management and irrigation. FRICTION TESTS

Messmer Büchel has developed the TMI Lab Master Slip and Friction Testing System. The system determines friction characteristics for industrial uses including paper, packaging, coatings, plastic and rubber. In addition, a peel attachment is available for 180° release or adhesion measurements. The unit contains a high-speed data acquisition system to locate and capture the static peak, while a force measuring system minimizes the inertial effects of the sled, according to the UK manufacturer. GEARS

The Falk Corporation has introduced a lifetime Shaft Removal Guarantee. The US company guarantees that its Quadrive shaft-mounted gear drives remain removable from the shaft, regardless of service length or operating conditions. If not, the company will replace the gear drive free of charge. The manufacturer's guarantee is coupled with a standard three-year warranty that provides full shaft-to-shaft protection on all components, including bearings and seals. HEATERS

Komax Systems has designed a new direct steam injection heating device to eliminate water hammer and vibration, as well as reducing noise levels. The other features of the lightweight unit include its rugged mechanical design, short length and non-moving parts. The US company claims that the heater can be used in water, whitewater, green liquor, black liquor and starch cooking. Fax: 1 310 830 9826 orwww.komax.com

MEASUREMENT

The DXp-40 web tension transmitter is a high-resolution instrument that measures up to four web tension zones, according to the manufacturer, Nobel Systems. The unit combines online transducer and system diagnostics, as well as fault tolerance and high performance measurement capabilities. The transmitter is designed for web tension applications where downtime, undetected errors and limited precision cannot be tolerated, the UK company claims. MOTORS

Baldor has extended its range of washdown-duty motion control equipment with the addition of new paint-free motors. The motors are specifically designed for inverter drive applications and are available in ratings of up to 7.5 kW. The UK manufacturer claims that the units can be exposed to high-pressure washdown with caustic solutions. The motors are also said to be suitable for any automation that requires high initial torques, such as mixing and pumping machinery. Fax: 44 1179 873 101 or eddie.palmer@baldor.co.uk

Michael Smith Engineers' flexible metering pumps handle tough fluids

PUMPS

Michael Smith Engineers has introduced a new range of mechanically flexed leak-proof diaphragm pumps. The pumps are said to provide accurate and repetitive liquid chemical metering at low cost. The Medo pumps range is available in three configurations, with six models that cover capacities from 0.7 l/hr up to 15 l/hr. The pumps have an adjustable stroke length of 20-100% and a stroke frequency ranging from 5-125 strokes/min. The UK company claims that its equipment is IP65 rated so that it can operate outside and in wet or damp locations. Fax: 44 1924 470 115 or www.michael-smith-engineers.co.uk
